08:30 AM - 10:00 AM

COST / ADMISSION: Free

Drawing on the research in his new book, "Making Ideas Happen," Behance Founder & CEO Scott Belsky will give an overview of key tips and insights for pushing ideas forward. He will touch on the three crucial components of creative execution – organization, communal forces, and leadership capability – and review a series of best practices shown to be effective across industries.

The morning will kick off with 30 minutes of coffee & networking. The presentation will start at 9:00am sharp, and be followed by a Q&A.

ABOUT "MAKING IDEAS HAPPEN" BY SCOTT BELSKY
Many of us believe that great ideas inevitably lead to success. Nothing could be further from the truth. Whether it is the perfect solution for an everyday problem or a bold new concept for a creative masterpiece, you must transform vision into reality for an idea to have value.

"Making Ideas Happen" chronicles the methods of exceptionally productive creative leaders and teams – companies like Google, IDEO, and Disney, and individuals like author Chris Anderson and Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh – that make their ideas happen, time and time again.

Are you an advertising, marketing, digital media or print media professional interested in greener media? If so, save the date and join, for FREE thought leaders GIL FRIEND and DON CARLI for breakfast and a provocative DIALOGUE on the ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT of PRINT AND DIGITAL MEDIA on between 8:30 and 10:30 AM on May 11th. (Coffee, tea, bagels and fruit will be served.)
Green and "paperless" campaigns imply that print media is harmful to the environment and digital media is not. For example: “Please consider the environment before printing this email" But …what if this warning is wrong? What if digital media is more destructive to the environment than print media?

Typographic tattoo expert Ina Saltz will share images and the fascinating stories behind the tattoos from her new book, "Body Type 2: More Typographic Tattoos" (the sequel to "Body Type: Intimate Messages Etched in Flesh"). And she has invited some typographically tattooed guests to show their typographic commitment "in the flesh;" many are art directors, creatives, type designers, et al. The power of type and the beauty of words on skin will surprise and (possibly) shock you. Do the font selection and the chosen text send the same message? You be the judge.

One Slam : The 1st Annual Copy Writers Poetry Smackdown

LOCATION: The Bowery Poetry Club, 308 Bowery, between Houston & Bleecker

TIME:
06:00 PM - 08:00 PM

COST / ADMISSION: Free

Calling all advertising copy writers.  Yes, we call it copy, that stuff you grind out every day.  But isn't it really poetry -- concise, intense, emotive words designed to stir the emotions so powerfully that the reader will fork over some cash?  Byron knew all about this.  So did Shelley, Whitman, Emily Dickinson.  Sure their heads were in the cosmos, but part of them (you know which part) was thinking of getting paid or getting laid.  Now you can get the literary recognition you deserve by reading your words at the The One Slam -- the 1st Annual Copy Writers Poetry Smackdown -- Wednesday night May 12th at the world-famous Bowery Poetry Club.

Just RSVP below with your name, name of your agency or company, and maybe something personal and endearing about yourself.  Then come to the Bowery Poetry Club and read your copy -- it can be any copy, a love poem, political screed, shopping list, an ad too artistic for your philistine client to comprehend -- just something short and powerful that you wrote.  You'll win prizes, applause and finally the literary acclaim you've always wanted.  Who knows -- you may even get laid.
